His ancestors are smiling on him, in his opinion, because he stuck by his forefathers' religion and didn't roll over and accept defeat. All of the races (man, mer, and "beast") seem to have issues with everyone that isn't them at some point, especially in the outer territories. Makes a good battle cry, but not a great founding policy of a new nation.
This is not confined to the Nords and really only a true reason to fight for the most basic of their supporters. The high elves believe themselves superior and are viewed as aggressive assholes, everyone hates Khajit because they're seen as vagrants and theives, etc. It is also implied that the Thalmor are secretly funding the Nords in the civil war because a weak/distracted Empire is an Empire they can control.Īll of this flares up into an increase in rascist sentiment because the Empire is charactarized by its diversity and spread. They take this infringment on their rights of worship very personally, and hate that the Empire was too weak to protect them.Īt this point it becomes a political move as well because being in the Empire does not seem mutually beneficial anymore, and they are in decline. Primarily the races of man worshipped him, but the Nords absolutely love him. Their religion says Talos was a man named Tiber Septim, founder of the Septim dynasty, who ascended to godhood upon his death. What really got the Nords fired up was the signing of the White Gold Concordant, a peace treaty with the Thalmor (ruling body of a high elf nation) that, among other things, outlawed the worship of Talos. I think the sympathy more lies in the religious aspect of the civil war.
